Previously, Middle-earth: Shadow of War had come under fire for featuring a gratuitous amount of microtransactions since its debut. Now, Warner Bros. and Monolith have taken fan feedback into consideration and have as of today removed the market and microtransactions from Shadow of War entirely thanks to a massive, free new update. In its place is the Garrison, where you'll store Orcs recruited via Online Vendettas and Ranked Conquests. You'll need to spend Mirian earned in-game to train and customize your fighters, so no real cash is needed. It's something that's been a long time coming, but now that it's here, players should be overjoyed at the news.
"Since Shadow of War launched, we’ve had the Flaming Eye pointed directly at our fantastic community, and we’ve been continually watching, reading and listening to your comments, criticisms and recommendations," Michael de Plater, Vice President of Creative at Monolith Productions shared in an official PlayStation blog today. "We want to say thank you because you’ve helped us make Shadow of War into a game we are truly proud of."
"We’ve removed the market, streamlined and improved the post-campaign Epilogue, added new player skins, new Legendary gear including Nazgûl masks so you can really confuse those Orcs and introduced hundreds of fixes and improvements."
In addition to this swath of excellent new content (and the removal of the annoying stuff, of course) there are new Legendary Orcs to encounter. Some followers may even come to surprise you with gifts. There's still plenty to explore in one of the best games out there to celebrate Middle-earth, and now that it will be devoid of the frustrating things players found so heinous about it in the first place, it should hopefully continue to attract new fans. A third game in the series would certainly be nice.
