Many believe that the future of video games will be in streaming subscription services. EA, one of the largest video game publishers on the planet, continues to slowly dip its toes into the subscription waters. The company originally announced plans to introduce a premium subscription service for PC customers during E3 2018 and it finally goes live today. Origin Access Premier is similar to the company’s existing Origin Access service, but will give subscribers to have full, unfettered access to EA’s newest titles five days prior to launch.
As of right now, the service is limited to the PC, though it could be expanded to consoles if this initial venture proves successful. The service is priced at $14.99 per month with an option to purchase a yearly subscription for $99 (a savings of $80 per year). The launch of the service appears to be timed with the impending release of Madden 19 for the PC. While Madden 19 is scheduled to launch on August 7 for PC (and consoles), EA is about to find out exactly how thirsty the PC audience is for football after a decade absence from the platform. Will these players opt in to Origin Access Premier to get a five day head start?
Subscribers to Origin Access Premier will receive:
- full, unlimited access to EA games, starting five days before they release
- access to The Vault, a library of games that just keeps growing all the time.
- the same 10% discount in the Origin Store on full games, pre-orders, expansions, FIFA points, and more
Players who plan on purchasing multiple EA titles each year may find a great amount of value in the package, especially with Battlefield 5 and FIFA 19 coming this fall.
