During E3 2018, the Shacknews Indie Heaven booth was a place where the premiere indie game developers could stop by and chat about their latest projects and their experience at the video games mega-conference. We were fortunate enough to get a visit from David Eddings, Head of Indie Game Publishing at Rooster Teeth Games, and Mike Mood, CEO of TheMeatly Games. They dropped in to speak with use about Bendy and the Ink Machine, the episodic survival horror game with a cool 1920s aesthetic.
If David Eddings seems familiar to you, it may be because you’ve played a Borderlands game. Eddings provides the voice of Claptrap, the endearing (and mostly annoying) sidekick that guides you through the campaigns of the Borderlands games. He was announced as the Head of Indie Game Publishing at Rooster Teeth back in February. Mike Mood is the lead developer on Bendy and the Ink Machine.
David and Mike explain the origins of the project, how the name came to be, and how the design changed throughout the development process. The candid conversation also touches on the happy accidents that lead to major contributions to game design. The duo also explains the reasoning behind going with an episodic release structure and why they will not be using the format in the future.
